H. Douglas Carlin 1930-2005 H. Douglas Carlin, 74, of Riverview passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Monday, June 6, 2005. Doug was born in Hillsborough, son of the late Alston and Frances (Steeves) Carlin. He was educated at Hillsborough Superior School and in 1948 studied at NB Normal School, Fredericton. In NB he held teaching positions in Salem, Weldon and Hillsborough. In 1951 he entered Acadia University, studying Psychology and Theology and was awarded BA and M.Div. degrees. He then ministered in Nova Scotia Baptist Churches at South Hampton, Amherst, Liverpool and Berwick. He also served a 3 year term as General Secretary of the Student Christian Movement at the University of British Columbia. In 1970 he re-entered teaching and earned M.Ed. degree from Acadia. Teaching positions were held in Brooklyn and Liverpool, NS. Upon retirement in 1995, he and Diana continued to live in Liverpool, Queens Co. Nova Scotia until 2000, when they moved to Riverview. In his retirement, Doug enjoyed his computing skills, acquired during his teaching career, to pursue Genealogy projects on his Carlin and Steeves ancestors. Also of great interest to him were photography and desktop publication of little books featuring his one and only grandson. Besides his beloved and dedicated wife, Diana of over 47 years, Doug will be sadly missed by his sons, David (Phyllis Ross), Riverview, Derek (Elizabeth Cheung), Burnaby, BC; parents of the much loved Daniel; brothers, Cyril (Sadie), Dartmouth, NS:, Donald, Fredericton and Gerald (Pauline), Hillsborough; sisters, Rita Renton (Allison), Riverview; Kathryn Steeves and Ardeth Allen (Rev. Jack), Hillsborough; several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive him. No visitation by personal request. A Celebration of Doug's life will be held at The Moncton Wesleyan Church Thursday June 16, 2005, 11am; Rev. Jay Guptill officiating. Reception following the service. Interment, Gray's Island Cemetery, Hillsborough. In Doug's memory donations to The Deaf Ministry at The Moncton Wesleyan Church would be appreciated.
