Passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, B.C.
Born in Toronto, October 23, 1947 to the late R. Laird and Margaret (MacAulay) Mowat.
Laura moved to Cape Breton in her teens and while raising a family she proceeded to follow her dream of becoming a nurse and graduated from St. Rita School of Nursing.
She was an avid supporter and volunteer of youth football.
Moving to Victoria in 1987 she continued her nursing career and took up another love, Scottish country dancing. She was an active member of St. Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church where she was the church secretary and a devoted member of the choir.
Predeceased by her parents, Laird and Margaret; brothers, Mark and Ian in infancy and special friend David Hould.
Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children, Jack Osborne, Victoria, B.C., Laura (Doug) Ross, St. John’s, Nfld. and Christopher (Jody) Osborne, Moose Jaw, Sask.; grandchildren, Diana and Alyssa, Matthew, Kyra and Lachlan, Dylan and Camden; siblings, Kathy (Diarmuid) O’Donovan, Whitehorse, Yukon, Sandy (Carole) Mowat, Kindersley, Sask., Mary (Blair) Tryon, Ottawa, Ont., Chris (Peter) Nemeth, Whitehorse, Yukon, Mavis (Sam) Morrison, Baddeck, N.S.; also a large number of nieces and nephews, especially niece, Erin Mowat; aunts and uncles, family and friends.
A special thank you for the compassionate care provided by the doctors, nurses, volunteers, and staff at Victoria Hospice Unit.
Funeral service to take place on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 1 p.m. from St. Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church, 4733 West Saanich Rd., Victoria, BC. Interment to follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers gratefully accepted, or donations may be made in her name to St. Michael’s and All Angels Church or charity of your choice.
