Peter Whitney Grant, age 84, of 88 Abercrombie Loop, Abercrombie, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at home.
Born in Scotch Hill, he was the son of the late Gordon and Lillian (Johnson) Grant.
He was a retired dairy farmer and worked as a provincial assessor in Pictou County. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, where he served as an Elder, and, he was a former member of the men’s choir. He was a former trustee of the Abercrombie Fire Dept.; former member of the IOOF; and he had received an award for his work in the community.
He is survived by sons, Doug (Shannon), Abercrombie, Scott (Donna), Abercrombie; grandchildren: Melanie (Capt. Jeff Powell), Amy (Jeff Hennigar), Jackie (Curtis Frost), Joshua; sister, Gladys (Clarence) Porter, Stellarton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Anna Douglas; grandson, Jonathan Scott Grant; and sister, Olive Phyllis Perry.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Abercrombie Cemetery at a later date.
