Layton ‘Sonny’ MacLeod, 70, Glace Bay, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, March 3, 2009.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Bill and Aurora (Dejeet) MacLeod.
He was employed at Sydney Steel for 31 years. He will be remembered for his love of bowling and his many “400’s†and for his love of Lionel trains and local train history.
Layton was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and as a member of the board of managers. He was a member of the church choir.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ruby (Turner) MacLeod and his children, Layton (Kim), Port Williams, N.S., Laurel Beth (Bruce) Smith, Glace Bay, Lisa (Harvey) MacEachern, Glace Bay, Lincoln (Denise), Baddeck, Lowell (Mary Lynn), Glace Bay. He is survived by his grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Sara, Billy and Angus MacLeod; Liam Smith; Fraser, Carter and Maura MacLeod; Colin and Emily MacLeod. He is survived by his sister, Glenda (Colin) Cassie in Victoria, B.C.
Visitation for the late William Layton MacLeod will be held on Friday, March 6, 2009 at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St. 849-7520 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 2 p.m. in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay with Rev. Michael Henderson officiating, internment to follow in Forrest Haven Memorial Gardens.
