John A. "Jack" Young
John A. "Jack" Young 1921 - 2005 John Abram Young, of Lupin Avenue, Riverview, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Saturday, October 15, 2005 following a battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, August 4, 1921, he was a son of the late Reginald and Florence (Hanlyan) Young. A veteran of the Second World War, Jack served with the Canadian Armed Forces as a Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Artillery. A commercial traveler for 45 years, Jack worked for Building Products of Canada, and retired from sales with Hub Meat Packers in 1992. He loved camping and enjoyed spending time at his trailer at TNT Campground in Coles Island. Jack was past president and a founding member of the Riverview Veteran's and Armed Forces Association. He was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed playing golf and cards, especially cribbage. He is survived by his wife, Rowena (Williamson) Young of Riverview; son, Bob Young (Linda) of Sooke, BC; stepsons, John Vautour (Alice) of Sussex and Dale Vautour (Sandra) of Moncton; sisters, Barb Clifton of Halifax, Betty Laugh of Dartmouth and Mary Mullins of St. Petersburg, Florida; grandsons, David Young (Theresa) of Sooke, BC, Chris Young of Victoria, BC and Robert Vautour (Athena) of Montreal; granddaughters, Kim Vautour of Montreal and Candice Vautour (Joshua Wade) of Portland, Oregon; great grandchildren, Jessica and Jason Young of Sooke, BC and Billy Vautour of Montreal. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Don of Halifax. The Riverview Veteran's and Armed Forces Association will conduct a Veterans Service at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 18 at 2:00 pm, followed by visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, with parish prayers at 8:30. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church Riverview on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 11:00 am. Fr. Deva officiating. A reception for Jack's friends and family will be held at the Dan Bohan family Center immediately following the service. Interment in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
