Roy Allston Garland 1919 - 2005 Roy Allston Garland, of Moncton, passed away at The Veterans Health Center on Friday, November 11, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Born in Sunny Brae, he was the son of the late Benjamen and Ella (Hartz) Garland. In 1939 Roy volunteered for active duty with the Royal Canadian Army and subsequently served overseas in the Second World War with the First Canadian Division, Eighth Field Battery, RCA in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany where he was decorated for bravery and mentioned in dispatches from Buckingham Palace for his service to his country. Upon his return to Moncton in 1945, he worked until retirement at Canada Post where he was president of the CUPW Moncton local for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Order Acacia Lodge and the Scottish Rite. Active in the community, he served for many years as a member and chairperson of the Moncton Town Planning Commission. Roy is survived by his sons, Stephen (Georgina) and Earl (Wanda) of Moncton as well as his grandchildren, Ruth Anne and Stephanie Garland and Erin, Jennifer and Adam Garland. He is also survived by a sister, Lillian Daly and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Harmer) in December 2003; brothers, John and Hinson; and sisters, Margaret and Hazel. A private family memorial service will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home, Moncton. Memorial donations may be made to The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation or the Dr. G. L.
