Leoma McCarthy GRAND FALLS, NB - Leoma McCarthy, age 92, of Grand Falls (Portage), N.B., passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, December 7th, 2005 surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Helen (Nellie) (McGrath) McCarthy on September 19, 1999. He was born on September 25, 1913 at Grand Falls, a son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (McCormick) McCarthy. A descendant of Irish Immigrants who cleared and farmed the area south of Grand Falls, he spent his early years working in the woods on the Tobique in the late 1920s and 1930s. However, for some 66 years, he grew potatoes and looked after his cattle on his farm located near the homestead farm where he was raised. A beloved husband, grandfather and friend, he will be fondly missed by his family, relatives and friends, but especially his daughter, Charlene and Peter Pinette, Caribou, Maine; and his five sons; Arnold and Bernard, Grand Falls; Farrell and Edna, Miramichi, N.B.; Cyril and Anna, Grand Falls, and Vincent, Toronto. He is survived by his 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one brother, Ivan (Lena) McCarthy and his sister-in-law, Margaret McCarthy. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Theresa Campbell and Rita McCarthy; and brothers, John, Bert and Eugene. His quiet, kind and generous personality endeared him not only to his family but to everyone who came in contact with him. Leoma McCarthy was a devote Christian and active communicant of St. Patrick's Parish, Grand Falls (Portage). He was a former choir member; a past member of the Legion of Mary and a member of the Knights of Columbus for 68 years. Resting at O'Regan's Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls, with visiting hours on Friday, December 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, December 10, at 11 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church, Grand Falls (Portage), with Father Curtis Sappier officiating.
