John B. O'Connor
John B. O'Connor John B. O'Connor, 91, of Lakeview Manor, Riverview and formerly of Moncton passed away at his residence on Wednesday, January 25, 2006. Born in Hillsborough, he was the son of the late Mark B. and Theresa (Kent) O'Connor. John was retired from NB Power with many years service. He was a member of the Moncton Irish Association; the Moncton Lions Senior Citizens Association; member of the Moncton Legion Branch #6 for over 50 years. He was an avid bridge player. A great crib player, John and his partner won the Royal Canadian Legion Provincial Cribbage Tournament in 1995. Coin collecting was John's passion and in pursuit of this interest, both he and his wife did much traveling within the Maritimes. Former member of the Moncton Kinsman Club, the Knights of Columbus; former Councillor for the town of Sackville; former member of the Moncton Museum Board of Directors. In past years he was the driving force in the rebuilding of St. Aloyius Cemetery in Albert Mines. Veteran of World War II, served overseas with the Royal Canadian Army (Ordnance Corps) for 4 years, he landed in France on D-Day and was married to Robertine (Vandaele) in Belgium in 1945. Besides his wife, Robertine, he will be sadly missed by his daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Dyckow, Brockville, ON; son, Mark, Dartmouth; two grandchildren, Dean and Debra (Pierre); great grandchildren, Emily, Alexander, Mathieu. Several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, six sisters and one brother. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), Sunday, January 29, 2006, 2 to 4. Moncton Legion Branch #6 Memorial Service 4pm. Funeral service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, Monday, January 30, 11:00 am, Rev. Bernard Sloan officiating. Reception following the service.
