Amalia Maria Blomsma 1915 - 2006 HARRISVILLE, NB - Amalia (Emmy) M. Blomsma, 90, of Harrisville, passed away on Saturday, April 22nd, 2006 at The Moncton Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in The Hauge-Holland on June 26th, 1915, she was the daughter of Wilhelm and Allegondaw Jansen. Amalia found delight and gratification in her work as a school teacher in Holland before she and her family immigrated to Canada in 1951. She was the shining star of her family, completely devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. Amalia found lasting associations through her membership in the Harrisville Women's Institute. She enjoyed her craft and tea afternoons with the Harrisville ladies. She felt greatly honored and thrilled when many of them along with several cherished friends and family gathered to celebrate her 90th birthday last June. Amalia had a great love and respect for animals. She loved to play the piano, knit and sew. She crafted beautiful sweaters, afghans, and teddy bears for her family. She also donated much of her work to needy families in the Moncton area. Her smile, keen mind, sweet disposition and wonderful sense of humor were a delight to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Amalia is survived by her husband of 67 years, Frederik Blomsma; and her three sons, Robbert (Elizabeth), Moncton, Fred (Sharon), Riverview, and Paul (Kathie), Harrisville; her five grandchildren, Angela, Emily, Jill, Michael, and Kristi; her daughter-in-law, Carol Blomsma of Rothesay; and sister-in-law, Jet Geelen-Blomsma of The Netherlands. She was predeceased by her brother, Joe; and son, Wiebe (Bill). Her family wish to extend sincere thanks to Drs. Deware, LeBlanc, and Russell and the devoted nurses and staff of The Moncton Hospital, 5200 and 3600 for their excellent care and compassion extended to Amalia during her three month stay. She was always very grateful for anything that anyone did for her, as such; the many little extras meant so much. By personal request there will be no public visitation or funeral service at the funeral home. A private family service will take place. Burial will take place in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Salisbury Road in the spring.
