Merle Jean Stiles LUCKY
Merle Jean Stiles LUCKY LAKE, SK - Merle Jean Stiles (nee Maynes), age 65, of Lucky Lake passed away with dignity and courage, with her husband, John at her side, on May 30th, 2006 at Royal University Hospital. Merle was born at Lucky Lake on October 23, 1940 to Clifford and Amy Maynes. Merle took her early schooling at various schools in the district, completing high school in Demaine and then attended business college in Saskatoon and Victoria, BC. Merle married John Stiles of Middlesex, New Brunswick on June 13, 1961 in Calgary, AB. Merle and John made Calgary their home in the early years while John was a member of the armed forces. In 1973 they moved to the farm near Demaine where they raised their children. On the farm Merle grew a large garden which brought her great joy and worked in the fields as well; hauling grain, combining, baling, seeding, harrowing, the only job she never tackled was welding! Simple pleasures brought her great joy, time spent in the 'river hills', going for drives to check crops, a game of cribbage, and of course her piano, with Strauss being her favourite. Merle was predeceased by her parents; a brother in infancy, Lorne Allen; special niece, Alvia Munro and brother-in-law, John Munro. Left to honour Merle's memory and life are her husband of 44 years, John of Lucky Lake; sons, Michael of Saskatoon and Shawn (Kimberly) of Waasis, NB and one sister, Margaret of Victoria, BC. The family would like to express their deepest and sincere gratitude to all the staff on 5000 at Royal University Hospital. Your sincere kindness and genuine care has meant so much these past several months. The Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2006 at 2pm at the Demaine Community Hall with Pastor Mike Housek officiating. Email condolences may be sent to mail@saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME. 244-5577.
