Dr. Christopher Frederick MacRae

Dr. Christopher Frederick MacRae KOMOKA, ON - Peacefully at Country Terrace, Komoka, ON, on Monday, July 3, 2006. Dr. Christopher Fred- erick MacRae in his 97th year. Born in Wardsville, ON in 1909, the only son of Farqhuar and Frances (Simpson) MacRae. He was educated in Glencoe, Ontario schools and later at the University of Western Ontario (BA '30), McMaster University (MA '49), and the University of Toronto (PhD '53). A teacher of English literature, his career began at Delta Collegiate in Hamilton, moved him, subsequently, to high schools in Russell and Hagersville, Ontario, took him from 1949 to 1963, to Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB, and finally to the University of Waterloo, Ontario from where he retired in 1977, then to become Professor Emeritus. Active in the affairs of the Anglican Church of Canada, he served as lay reader (and occasionally, a member of synod) in the dioceses of Niagara, Fredericton and Huron. He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Williams, Stratford, ON; two sons, Peter MacRae (Helen), Pictou, NS and David MacRae, Guelph, ON; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by Jessie (Horn), his wife of 50 years, as well as his only sister, Marjorie Warden, and by two children, Catherine and Kenneth, both of whom died in infancy. Relatives and friends will be received at the Van Heck Funeral Home, 172 Symes St., Glencoe on Thursday, July 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held at St. John's Anglican Church, Glencoe at 11am, Friday, July 7, 2006. Interment in Oakland Cemetery, Glencoe.
