With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden death of Donald MacLeod Smith at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on March 6, 2009.
He was the son of the late Charles and Ann (Walker) Smith.
He was employed with S&L Railway for over 25 years.
He owned and operated Pat’s Convenience Store and Harbourview Guest Home Ltd. in Whitney Pier. He was also employed at the Cape Breton Regional Housing.
Don loved to hunt and fish and spend time in the country at New Campbelltown.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Gerry) Pike; son, Richard, New Campbellton; daughters, Donna (Keith Wall), New Campbellton, and Tara (Leonard Bergmane), Ottawa.
Don is survived by his precious grandchildren, Cory Wall, Anabella and Douglas Bergmane-Smith.
Also survived by his sister, Linda (Wayne Hayes), Sydney.
Don was predeceased by his parents, sister, Colleen Bunce and brother, Melvin.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, March 10 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Wade Reppert of First United Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke or Kidney foundations.
Lunch will be served following the service at Sydney Memorial Chapel.
