Bernice McKinley
Bernice McKinley 1913-2006 Bernice McKinley, 93, widow of Elmer McKinley, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Lakeview Manor, Riverview. Born in Meductic, N.B., on August 10, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Emily (Melanson) O'Connor. She grew up in Germantown, Albert County, where she developed a life-long interest in nature and enjoying the outdoors. She lived the majority of her life in Moncton where she was a full-time mother and homemaker and a member of the St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, particularly loving outings in Fundy National Park. No picnic was ever complete without Bernice's coveted brown-sugar fudge from the recipe she never divulged. She is survived by one son, Clayton (wife Marquita) of Edmonton, Alta.; three daughters, Phyllis Brace (husband Dr. Hanford) of Avon Park, Fla., Edith Robb (husband Bill) of Riverview and Mabel McKinley of Moncton; daughter-in-law, Martha McKinley of Riverview; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carleton O'Connor (wife Arva) of Riverside-Albert and Bert O'Connor (wife Ann) of Harvey Bank; two sisters, Sister Eva O'Connor of Halifax and Lillian Greene of Sussex; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Elmer, she was predeceased by her elder son, Bernard; one brother, Rod O'Connor; and three sisters, Zita MacDow, Miriam Wright and Mary MacEachern. She will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Monday evening, September 11, 2006 from 7 to 9pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at the St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Moncton on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 11am. The family will be meeting with relatives and friends immediately following the service at the church for further fellowship and refreshments. Interment will be held in the Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hopewell Hill, N.B., where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
