Walter M. Pond

Walter M. Pond 1918-2006 MIRAMICHI, NB - Walter Mitchell Pond, husband of the late Mary Pond, of Winnipeg Crescent, Miramichi Retirement Community, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at the age of 88. Born in Ludlow, on April 25, 1918, he was the son of the late Addison and Alice (Mitchell) Pond. He was a thirty-five year retired employee of the International Nickel Company (INCO), in Sudbury, Ont. and an adherent of Carmel United Church, Napan. He was a Veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Canadian Patricia Light Infantry in England, Scotland, France, Italy and North Africa. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a Past President of Royal Canadian Legion Branches in both Sudbury and Caperol, Ont. He was also Past President of the Sudbury Chapter of the Cerebral Palsy Foundation. He is survived by one half sister, Dorothy Keith (Donald), of Fredericton; one half brother, Guy Pond, of Yuma, Arizona, USA; several nieces and nephews, including one very special niece, Betty Fraser; and two very special care givers in his life, Nora and Wilburn Dickson. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Guyder; one son, Billy Pond; one sister, Evelyn Pond; three brothers, Clinton, George and Murray Pond. By request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. The public is invited to attend a memorial service to be held from Adams Funeral Home Chapel, on Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. David Cleveland. Interment will be in St. Michaels Roman Catholic Cemetery, Miramichi. Please note, members of Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion, are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at 2 pm, for a Veterans Service following the funeral service. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi Physically Disabled, Carmel United Church or any charity of the donors' choice would be appreciated by the family.
