Ernest Ormand Steeves CD 1921-2006 OTTAWA, ONT - Ernest Ormand Steeves CD passed away quickly and peacefully at the Perley Rideau Veteran's Health Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, on Thursday, November 23, 2006, at the age of 85. Born in Petitcodiac, NB, he was a son of the late Roy and Alberta (Wilson) Steeves of Salisbury, NB. Ernie, a Veteran of the Second World War joined the RCAF in 1941 as a Spitfire Pilot in the 401 Squadron. After his Honorable Release in 1944, he later rejoined the RCAF in 1949. He served his country during peacetime until his Honorable Release in March 1961. Ernie received four medals during his service: The Defence Medal, The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, The 1939-1945 War Medal, and the Canadian Forces Decoration - CD. From 1961 to 1984, he worked with The Canadian Credit Men's Association and then Farm Credit Corporation as Credit Manager. Ernie was a member of the Petitcodiac United Baptist Church and was predeceased by his loving wife Doris Eileen (Wood) Steeves in October 2001. He is survived by his only son, Gary Wayne Steeves (Fran Garner) of Hillsborough, NB; and his only daughter, Edna Anne Betts (Jim) of Ottawa, ON; his granddaughters, Stacey Lee Wright (Tim) of Riverview, NB, and Lee Anne Caba (Paco) of Dieppe, NB; his grandsons, Brent Alan Betts (Suzanne Dionne) of Kingston, NS, and Brice Andrew Betts (Tammy Berteit) of Weldon, NB; five great-grandsons, Adrian Caba, Jesse and Cole Wright, and Matthew and Christopher Betts; one sister, Evelyn Bell, of Montreal, PQ; one sister-in-law, Bernice Dell (Wood), of Petitcodiac, NB; and many beloved nieces, nephews and their families. He was also predeceased by a brother, Austin Steeves, of Juniper, NB; and a sister, Lou Hughson of Petitcodiac, NB. Ernie will be resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, NB, with visiting hours from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2006. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at 2 pm with The Rev. Canon Albert Snelgrove officiating and Basil Campbell as organist /soloist. A reception will follow in the Garden View Reception room of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
