Fletcher Carnwath Shaffer
Fletcher Carnwath Shaffer 1937-2006 GERMANTOWN, NB - Fletcher Carnwath Shaffer, 69, of Germantown passed away at the Moncton Hospital on December 21st, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. However he remained at his home surrounded by his family and friends until earlier that evening which was very important to him. He was born in Germantown on September 15th, 1937 the son of the late Garnet Shaffer and Orpah (Stewart) Shaffer- Ledger. He worked at Modern Construction for 43 years. He was known as the best grater operator of all time. He took great pride in his work and has worked on most of the roads all over Atlantic Canada. He was known for his great sense of humor, telling stories and jokes, you could always count of Fletcher for a good laugh even when he was going through difficult times himself. Fletcher was the type of man who you could count on if there was anything to be done, he was always willing to give a helping hand, even working with Modern after he retired he was there when needed. His family meant a great deal to him and he enjoyed all the times they shared especially times with his grandchildren. In the last few years he also enjoyed camping with his many friends. He will always be remembered and will live on in the hearts of his family forever. He will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife, Imelda Shaffer of Germantown; daughter, Valerie Bannister (Douglas) of Moncton; sons, Garnet of Albert County, Richard of Moncton, David (Judy) of Salisbury, Terry (Bobby-Jo) of Moncton; his sister, Gertrude Sargent of Germantown; brothers, Floyd (Dorothy) of Albert Mines and Carvel (Joan) of Germantown; sister-in-law, Marina Shaffer of Riverview and his beloved 14 grandchildren; he will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his step-father, Arthur Ledger; five brothers, Ronald, George, Reginald, Alphonse, Wallace; by a sister, Irene; and by brother-in-law, Pat Sargent. He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Tuesday, December 26th, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. There will be Parish Prayers and a time of sharing at 8:30pm at the funeral home on Tuesday evening. The funeral Service will be held at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Riverside-Albert on Wednesday, December 27th, 2006 at 11am. Interment will be held in the Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hopewell Hill, N.B. For those who wish donations to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital or to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
