Irma Joan Ferguson, formerly of Sunrise Drive, Sydney River, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, while a resident at the MacGillivray Guest Home, where she had been a patient since having a stroke in October 2003.
Born in Wallace, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Frank and Mrs. Harriet (Flynn) Charman.
Irma will be remembered for her “joie de vivreâ€, her warm hospitality and her wonderful gardens. She was a teacher for the County of Cape Breton, an avid reader and she enjoyed writing and painting.
Surviving are her daughter, Connie Ferguson, Sydney; son, Michael (Sheila) Hayes, Halifax; two grandchildren, Susan (David) Garrett and Creg (Brenda) Hayes; two great-grandchildren, Maggie and Jesse.
Irma was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Hayes; second husband, Roy Ferguson and brother, Dr. Frank Charman.
She will be missed by many friends and neighbours.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Thursday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Transition House, RHS Scholarship or MacGillivary Guest Home Chapel.
