We regret to announce the death of Catherine ‘Cassie’ McSween at the Glace Bay Health Care Facilitly on Monday, March 9, 2009, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in the Low Lands Cove, C.B., July 12, 1920, Cassie was a daughter of the late Angus and Christina (MacEachern) Fraser.
Cassie was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Joseph Church, New Victoria.
Cassie is survived by one son, Claude (Shirley), New Victoria; and daughters, Patsy (Paul) Baxter, Bertha (Victor) Oliveira, Brampton, Ont., and Barbara (John ‘Paddy’) McKinnon, New Victoria; sisters, Marcella Dunphy, Dingwall, Katie Fraser, Troy, Cape Breton, Mary MacLellan, Port Hawkesbury; brother, Murdock (Annie-Jane) Fraser, Dingwall. Cassie is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and ‘special buddy’, Vanessa Fraser.
Cassie was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence in 1993, daughter, Caroline LaTulippe, sisters, Christina Campbell, Sarah Jennex, brothers, Murdock ‘Fraser’ Fraser and Frankie Fraser.
Cassie was a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and known affectionately to all as ‘Big MA’. She loved playing bingo and spending time with her family, friends and neighbours.
Visitation for the late Catherine McSween will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Catherine will take place Friday, March 13, at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lingan, at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Cassie’s family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Seaview Manor where she resided for the past three years and to Dr. Mark Ellerker for the excellent care she received while in their care. Also, a thank you to the pallbearers, readers, the choir and Fr. Paul MacNeil of St. Leonard’s Parish and a very special thank you to the staff of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home for their kindness and professionalism in our time of grief.
