Durley Devere Stevens
Durley Devere Stevens 1934 - 2007 LOWER CAPE, NB - Durley Devere Stevens, 72, of Lower Cape passed away peacefully on May 13th, 2007 at home with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Durley was born on September 23rd, 1934, the son of the late Truman and Annie (Crawford) Stevens. He was a member of the Lower Cape Baptist Church. Durley was a farmer and also worked in the woods lumbering. He enjoyed every detail that had to do with farming; he loved animals and this was definitely his passion. Durley treasured times spent with his family. He was very proud of all of his children and grandchildren and always talked about their accomplishments with pride. He also had a great sense of humour. Durley loved to tell stories and jokes and also enjoyed being in the room when others shared theirs. He had a very unique little laugh. He was the type of man who would help anyone; all you had to do is ask and Durley was there to do whatever needed to be done. He was well known throughout the community for his kind and caring ways. He was a very special person, who will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 51 years, Maxine (Akerley) Stevens; his daughters, Darlene Douthwright (Edward) of Lower Cape and Karen Richard of Fredericton; his sons, Dereck (Bev) of Lower Cape, Duane (Kim) of Stewiacke, N.S., and Larry (Julia) of Lower Cape. He will also be missed by his cherished six grandchildren, Devin, Chelsea, Katelin, Kristen, Brandon, Krista, and special granddaughter, Miranda, all of whom meant the world to him. He is also survived by his sisters, Vivian Dixon (Tommy) of Hopewell Hill and Ruby McClary of Harcourt; his brothers, Leslie (Eileen) of Hillsborough, Merrill (Sylvia) of Lower Cape and Victor (Oris) of Riverside-Albert; as well as several nieces and nephews Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Golda Hawkes; and brothers, Len, Eddy and Melvin. He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Monday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 15th, 2007 at 2 pm with Pastor Leonard Geldart officiating and Rev. Don MacDougall assisting. Interment will be held in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lower Cape.
