BARKER - Pamela Elizabeth, age 86 of Swift Current and formerly of Mankota, SK, passed away February 28, 2009, at the Cypress Regional Hospital. The Memorial service was held March 5, 2009, at 2:00 PM from St. Stephen's Anglican Church with Archdeacon Rob Hardwick officiating. The organist was Betty Baragar and the eulogist was Allan Barker. The interment service will be held at Mankota Cemetery at a later date. Pamela is survived by her sister Iris in Scotland; sisters-in-law Bessie Barker, Jean Barker and Evelyn Gillies; brother-in-law Jack (Millie) Barker and numerous nieces and nephews. Pamela was predeceased by her husband Lyell in 2004; her son Dereck in 1948; a sister Barbara; brothers-in-law Bill Gillies, George and Bob Barker. Pamela was born in Gourock, Scotland, May 26, 1922. She attended school in Gourock and Nurses College in Glasgow. Pamela married Lyell in Gourock, Scotland on October 11, 1945. She was employed as an army nurse in Glasgow during the war and Mankota Hospital. Pamela was an active member of the Legion, active in the CCF party, member of the curling club in Mankota and a Board Member of the Mankota and Swift Current Libraries. Her special interests were knitting, crocheting, playing cards, reading and entertaining. Pam enjoyed living on the farm and enjoyed visits with family after retiring in Mankota.
