John (Jack) J. Lawlor

John (Jack) J. Lawlor 1932 - 2007 John (Jack) J. Lawlor 74, of Moncton, with his family at his side, passed away at his residence on Monday evening September 3, 2007, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Dartmouth, NS, he was the son of the late John J. and Gertrude (Lahey) Lawlor. Jack joined the R.C.M.P. in 1952 and upon completion of training he was posted briefly to Ottawa and then served at St. John's, NF. Goose Bay and Cartwright (Labrador) and then in New Brunswick, Saint John, Port Elgin, Bouctouche, Grand Falls, Sussex and Moncton, retiring as Staff Sergeant in April 1976. He joined the Moncton City Police Department as Deputy Police Chief and was acting Deputy until July 1994. Retirement lasted for 6 months and in January 1995 Jack was appointed the 1st Acting Chief of the new Miramichi City. He held this position a year and then retired once again. An avid golfer, but with only a short season in the Maritimes, Jack went back to work for the Atlantic Lotto Corporation for 10 years, retiring in 2004. Jack attended Holy Family Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Jack will be sadly missed by his daughters Tracy, Moncton, Joanne Lawlor-Janssen (Scott), Dartmouth, NS; sons, Paul (Donna), Tony (Sue), Moncton; grandchildren, Luke, Sarah, Adam, Starr, Emily; sister, Florence Blaxland, Dartmouth, NS; brothers, Mike (Sheila), Pat (Jackie), William, all of Dartmouth, NS. Numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Noreen A. (Murdoch) Lawlor (2003); brothers, James and Charles; sisters, Katherine, Mary, Margaret. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) Thursday 2 to 4, 7 to 9. Parish Prayers and Sharing of Memories Thursday evening 8:30pm. Funeral Mass at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church Friday September 7, 2007, 10am. Rev. Phil Mulligan officiating. Reception following the Mass. Interment, Mount Hermon Cemetery, Dartmouth, NS.
