Art Powers of Fredericton NB occurred at the Dr. E Thursday

Arthur Joseph Powers FREDERICTON, NB - The death of Art Powers of Fredericton NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday, October 11, 2007. Born in Grand Falls NB on February 11, 1917, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lorette (Theriault) Powers and husband of Rose (Aubut) Powers. Art graduated from the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton in 1936 and subsequently taught school in Plaster Rock, Edmundston and Bathurst. From June 1940 until September 1945 he served with the North Shore (NB) Regiment and the Black Watch (RHR) of Canada. From 1945 to 1965 he worked with the Dominion Bureau of Statistics in Halifax NS and was transferred in 1965 to the Federal Department of Labour in Fredericton where he remained until his retirement in 1975. Art was a talented carpenter and woodworker and enthusiastically shared his expertise with others. He enjoyed golf and curling at the Fredericton Golf & Curling Club and was an accomplished bowler. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4. Art will be greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Rose (Aubut) Powers. He also leaves to grieve his daughter, Pat Woodill (Ray) of Riverview NB and his sons, Roger (Jacquie) of Grand Barachois NB and Rick (Kathy) of Fredericton NB. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Chris (Margriet) Woodill of Norton NB, Sean (Kari) Woodill of Riverview NB, Derrick Powers of Dartmouth NS, Krista (Ricky) Wiaz of Ottawa ON, Shelley (Elliott) Little of Bettendorf, Iowa USA, Jason (Jennifer) Powers of North Bay ON, Steve Powers of Fredericton NB and Lindsay Powers of McLennan AB, as well as his 12 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Lorraine, and was predeceased by his parents; sisters Blanche, Eva, Lena, Marie; and brothers Pius, Wallace, Claude, Fernand and Alfred. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home (458-9170) on Sunday, October 14, 2007 from 1-3 p.m. The funeral service as well as the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 tribute, will be held at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Father J.J. Dolan officiating. Due to his limited vision, Art appreciated the help he received from the CNIB Fredericton Divisional Office and the Talking Book Service of the York Library Region in Fredericton (special thanks to Didi Sorensen).
