Martin Edward Briggs
Martin Edward Briggs 1922-2007 Martin Edward Briggs of McNair Manor, Moncton and formerly of Briggs Crossroad, Lutes Mountain, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, October 12, 2007 with his family by his side. Born in Stilesville he was the son of the late Charles and Grace (Chapman) Briggs. Martin was a Veteran of WWII having served five years with the Royal Canadian Army Signal Corps in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany (present for the liberation of Holland). He was a member of the Riverview Veterans Assoc., and enjoyed speaking to students at various schools about his war experiences for Remembrance Day. After the war he owned a store on Waverley Ave., worked as an electrician at HMCS Coverdale and ran his own successful electrical contracting business for a number of years. In addition, he built many houses and assisted in building/renovating several churches in the Atlantic Provinces and England. He will be remembered as friendly, generous, outgoing and always ready to help as the "go to" guy on "anything" needing to be fixed or built here or at his Florida neighborhood where he spent 27 winters with his wife. Martin was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene which formed a big part of his life, serving in numerous leadership roles over the years. He enjoyed travelling throughout North America, hunting, fishing, gardening, going to the camp and cottage, building boats and trailers, and he even had a motorcycle. Martin will be sadly missed by his wife of 61 years, Minnie (Wilbur) Briggs; daughters, Kayle Eno (Tom), Grand Barachois, Esther Miller (Steve), Riverton, WY; Granddad to Shane Eno (Selena Davidson), Mahone Bay, NS, Ryan Miller, Charlotte, NC, Jolene Osborne (Ryan), Cody, WY; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Bertha Smith, Plaster Rock, Evelyn West, Moncton; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandson, Darren Eno; brothers, Russell Briggs and George Coates. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd., Moncton (858-1995), Sunday, 2 to 5 pm. A Veteran's Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 14, 2007, 4:45 pm. Funeral Service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, Monday, 2:00 pm, reception to follow. Interment, Stilesville Cemetery.
