W. Horace Morell ALMONTE, ON - The death of Walter Horace Morell occurred at Almonte Country Haven, Almonte, Ontario on October 9, 2007. Born in Newcastle, NB, 1920, he was the son of the late Fred C. Morell and Grace (Jones) Morell. Horace lived a productive and interesting life. Shortly after his graduation from Harkins High School in 1937, he joined the staff of the Newcastle branch of the Royal Bank of Canada as a junior clerk. His banking career was to encompass his entire working life. Soon after the outbreak of the Second World War he joined the North Shore (NB) Regiment, going overseas in 1941. His wartime experience included a part in the Allied D-Day Invasion of Normandy. As a platoon Sergeant, he was in charge of the men on one of the landing craft that went ashore on Juno Beach. After the war he returned home and resumed his employment with the Royal Bank, serving in NB branches for a short period before being transferred to Montreal. At the time of his retirement he was a Branch Manager in Ottawa. Horace was always active in community organizations, including the Royal Canadian Legion and attended most of the reunions of his old regiment. He was noted for his sense of humour and he had many friends in all walks of life. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Corbett; three sons, Robert (Camille) of Dorval, QC, Alan of Almonte, ON and Kenneth (Juliette) of Toronto, ON; two daughters, Marjorie (David) Blackstock of Laval, QC and Kathryn (Peter) Cosham of Carleton Place, ON; one brother, George (Ethel) Morell of Winnipeg, MA; one sister, Lois (Robert) Martin of Miramichi, NB. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; as well as five nephews and many cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Fred C. Morell in March 2000. The funeral was held in Carleton Place, ON, under the direction of the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home.
