Theodore Glenita Russell GRAND MANAN, NB - Theodore Glenita Russell, 83 of North Head, Grand Manan, NB, passed away at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Theodore (Ted) and Alma Griffin of North Head. She attended school on Grand Manan and graduated in 1940. Mrs. Griffin was employed in her earlier years at the North Head Factory as a secretary and later at the Bank of Nova Scotia. She married Ross H. Russell on October 21, 1945 in a partnership of love in life and work. She and Ross built the North Head Irving service station in 1950 and a short time later they operated the Island's largest retail store at that time, a general merchandise store, called Ross H. Russell Ltd. Theo worked in the store doing the books and much of the buying while raising a family. They closed their store in 1972 and ran a wholesale distributorship. Theo was a beautiful piano and organ player. A member of the North Head Wesleyan Church where she employed her musical talents and her vibrant personality until she was physically unable, and through the years she organized many musical events, Christmas Concerts, Choir Cantatas, special singing groups for solos, church services, and many special Island events. She is survived by her daughter, Shelley (Wayne) Veysey, Grand Manan; one daughter in law, Nicole Cushing Russell of Halifax, NS and Washington, DC.; one sister in law, Helena Russell of North Head; also four grand children, Russell, Justine Thompson, Petitcodiac, NB, Kathleen and Nadine Thompson, Grand Manan; two step grand children, Scott and Jill Veysey , Sussex, NB. Mrs. Russell was predeceased by her husband, Ross H. Russell in 2003; her son, Brian Ross Russell as result of a tragic traffic accident in Washington, DC. August 25, 2007; one brother, Allison Griffin of Halifax, NS. The family will receive friends and relatives at Ells Funeral Home on Thursday, October 18th, from 2 to 4 pm & 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the North Head Wesleyan Church, on Friday, October 19th, at 1:30 pm with Rev. Charles Bain officiating, interment to follow in the North Head Community Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Church Hall . Memorials to the North Head Wesleyan Church and the North Head Cemetery would be appreciated.
