It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Mary, which occurred Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay on March 5, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Archie B. and Bessie (MacKay) MacDonald.
Mary worked at the Metropolitan Store as an assistant manager; served as a registrar for the provincial department of Vital Statistics; and, was also a licensed insurance broker. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Church; serving many years as a Sunday School teacher. Mary loved the pancake breakfasts; where she immensely enjoyed being the receptionist/cashier.
She is survived by her nephew, John (Roberta) Butterworth, Sydney; special grandnephew, Jamie (Karen); special friend, Helen Grant; and many other relatives and close friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Duncan; brothers, Lauchie and John and sister, Catherine.
Visitation will be held Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The funeral will be conducted Sunday 2 p.m. from St. Paul’s Church, Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. A reception will follow. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
