Catherine Theresa LeBlanc, Dec. 6, 1929-March 12, 2009, passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex surrounded by her family.
Our mother endured many health challenges over the last 18 months but each one was faced with courage and resolve.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Elliott.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Matthew LeBlanc (1989), sisters, Geraldine Myalls, Josephine Hill, brothers, James (Jimmy) and John (Jackie) Elliott.
Catherine is survived by her sons, Matty (Linda), Fort McMurray, Alta., Joel (Anna) Surrey, British Columbia, Greg (Cindy), Sydney Mines, Danny (Sherry), Saint John, N.B., Marcel (Nicole), Fort McMurray, Alta.; her daughters, Arlene Guest (Martin), Edmonton, Alta., Paula Coakley (Leonard), Georges River, N.S., and Judy Brennan (Darrell), Florence, N.S. She is also survived by two sisters, Irene Rosso, Ontario, Jessie Hamilton, Florida; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Catherine was a life-long resident of Sydney Mines, and was employed for many years with the Northside Amalgamated School Board. She was a member of the Florence Legion where she enjoyed many fun evenings playing darts with her friends. Kaye’s main focus in life was an unwavering devotion to her children and grandchildren (Grandma’s angels). We all enjoyed her wit and sense of humour, both sharpened by the experience of being a coal miner’s wife raising eight children.
In respect of Catherine’s wishes, arrangements are entrusted to Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Visitation for Catherine will be held Sunday, March 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will take place Monday, March 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, Fr. Hughie MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Catherine’s memory can be made to the Sydney Mines Food Bank.
