Murdock Forsythe

Murdock Forsythe 1917 - 2008 Murdock William Forsythe, passed away suddenly and peacefully Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Veterans' Health Care Centre, Moncton, N.B. Murdock, the son of the late John [Jack] and Laura [Steeves] Forsythe; and the eldest of seven children, was born at The Moncton Hospital, May 6, 1917. Murdock is survived by one son, Murdock Conrad (Judy) of Barrington Passage, N.S.; one daughter, Anne Laura (Roger) Moore of Markham, ON; grandchildren, Todd, Jodi, Scott (Jodi), Brett (Arden), Kent (Jennifer); great granddaughter, Dayna Forsythe; brother, Carl [Alene] and sister Verna [Gerald] Steeves, both of Moncton, and numerous nieces and nephews across Canada. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved Faye, his wife of 67 years; brothers, Aubrey and Harold; sisters, Evelyn French and Doris McConkey. During the Second World War Murdock was a Gun Sergeant with the 8th Field Battery, 2nd Field Regiment, of the Royal Canadian Artillery. As part of the First Canadian Division, he was stationed in Britain from 1939 - 1943 and served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and NW Europe. Murdock made lasting friendships within his Field Regiment, which continued over the last 60 years. After the war, Murdock began employment as a Railway Mail Clerk with the Federal Postal Department. He was also an insurance representative with Canada Life in Campbelton, N.B. After a move to Toronto in the mid 1960s, he worked for Plastiglide Ltd. and then Schlage Lock Company, as a sales and service representative in the eastern Ontario area. Upon return to Moncton in the early 1970s, Murdock was employed by Atlantic Co-op and eventually became the Manager of Peoples Park Tower in Moncton. Murdock, together with his wife; Faye, was a community builder. Both had been very involved in Moncton events and held active memberships in local organizations during their youth; as well as, their senior years: 8th Field Battery Association, The Moncton Legion Branch #6, YWCA Theatre group, Heritage Club, U.C.T. #756, Probus Club of Moncton, Community Group Homes, Centennial Lawn Bowling, Mountain Ridge Golf Club, Fur Liners, MCA, 50+ Stepping Out for Seniors. As a long time member of Mountain View United Church, Murdock was actually involved in the building of parts of the original church. The Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a Legion service at 1:50 pm in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home prior to the funeral service at 2:00 pm, on Monday, February 4, 2008 with Rev. Mary Anningson officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Garden View Reception Room of the funeral home. Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
