Roger Anthony Joseph Babineau AMHERST, NS - The family is saddened to announce the passing of Roger Anthony Joseph Babineau age 81 of Amherst NS on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, NS. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Elodie (Goguen) Babineau. Roger, a printer by trade started his long career in Amherst, then on to Fredericton NB and later in Florida at the St. Pete's Times prior to starting his own business. After returning to Amherst he was employed with the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA) as well as partnering in Babineau Printing with his wife, Betty. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Charles Parish Council. Roger, an avid sports enthusiast played hockey, baseball, basketball, golf, curling and shuffling. He coached Ladies Basketball, Amherst Little League and was a driving force starting Amherst Bantam Baseball. He was past President of the Amherst Curling Club. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, the former Harriet 'Betty' (Lusby) Bird and her children, K. Ross (Mary), Dianne (Vaughn) Melanson, Sandra (Bill) Huntley, Karen Smith (Dale Hoeg) and Cheryl (Don) Smith all of Amherst; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and his life long friend, Reginald Sonier. Roger was predeceased by his first wife, Loretta Belliveau; their son, David; a brother, Rene; one brother in infancy and one infant grandson. Visitation will be held at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906) on Friday, February 22, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. from Holy Family Parish, Amherst NS, with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Interment will take place in the St. Thomas Cemetery, Memramcook, NB. Family flowers only.
