William "Willie" Hastie

William "Willie" Fisher Hastie SACKVILLE - The death of William "Willie" Hastie, 87, of Sackville, occurred suddenly at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 27th, 2008. Born in Scotland, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Turner) Hastie. Willie was a prominent contractor who celebrated 40 successful years in construction on his 70th birthday. For 35 years, he had been an active member of the Sackville Lions Club. Among the many awards he received, the most notable were the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and a Life Membership Award. His plaques are displayed proudly at the Sackville Lions Den. He loved hunting, snowmobiling, and woodworking. He loved playing the "mouth-organ" and was never without it. A man of strong values, Willie was very family oriented, and very much a Scotsman through and through. Willie will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Doris (nee Phinney); one son, Peter (Cindy Amos) of Sackville; two daughters, Lois (Laverne) MacDonald, of Paris, ON, and Angela (Timmy Hicks) Hastie of Sackville; one brother, Alex; five sisters, Margaret, Helen, Betty, Ella, and Agnes; five grandchildren, Melissa, Bridget, Jason, Nicholas, Kelsey; and five great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Johnny. The remains have been entrusted to the care of the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300). The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 1st, 2008, 1pm from the funeral home. Pastor Hal Lowther officiating. Visitation will be Friday, February 29th, 2008 from 7 to 9pm and Saturday from 12pm until the time of the funeral. A Lions Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 29th at 6:30pm before visitation.
