AMHERST With great sadness, the family of Eva Gilroy, announce her passing at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday, March 12, 2009. Born in East Leicester, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Nellie (Lockhart) Carter.
She taught school in various Cumberland Co. communities for 6 years prior to her marriage. A devoted wife and mother, her greatest pleasure were the hours spent rocking each new grandchild. She served her church and community as a member of the West Leicester UCW, the Brookdale United Church, and was active in the Brookdale Sewing Circle. She enjoyed travelling with friends, squaredancing, card parties, books, animals and handcrafts, continuing to knit up until her last few weeks.
Everyone admired her warm, gracious manner and strong, yet gentle spirit. She enjoyed a good chat and was an honored guest at all family gatherings. She was well loved and will be greatly missed by her daughter, Helen Black (Robert) of Brookdale; sons, Elmore (Mary) and Carl (Joan) both of Fort Lawrence; eleven grand children and nineteen great grandchildren; a very special niece, Pauline Griffiths, a brother-in-law, William Gilroy and many nieces and nephews, and her large extended family and friends.
