Lillian Ruth Henson HALIFAX, NS - Lillian Ruth "Ruth" Henson 91, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 13, 2008 at home. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Elizabeth Vernon. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Selborne and sisters Evelyn Parker and Dorothy Farley. Born in Starbuck, Manitoba, September 9, 1916. Ruth was a teacher in rural Manitoba until becoming a WREN during WW II. She met Sel, also serving with R.C.N. upon being posted to Halifax. After several moves over the years, they settled in Fairview to continue raising their family. Ruth was a long standing member of the ACW of St. John's Anglican Church, Fairview. She enjoyed membership in the WRENS Association and the Foresters Bowling League. Many volunteer hours were given to Meals on Wheels, Literacy Nova Scotia, and Abilities Foundation of Nova Scotia and as an ESL teacher. Ruth is survived by children, Marion (Ron) McKinnon, Beaver Bank, Sally (Larry) Miklos, Riverview, NB and Rodney (Carmie) Henson, Halifax; grandchildren, Gordon, Christine, Eric, Paul, Jennifer and great grand children, Damien and Nevaeh. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9pm Sunday, March 16 with a funeral service 10:00 am Monday, March 17, all at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. Interment to follow in St. John's Cemetery with a reception at Atlantic Funeral Home. Her family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. E. Johnson, VON Services and Red Cross Care Staff for their special attention in her final months.
