Leslie (Les) C. Stokes

Leslie (Les) C. Stokes Leslie (Les) C. Stokes, 80, of Riverview, with his loving family at his side, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday March 16, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Chesley and Annie (Crandall) Stokes. Les was retired from Air Canada (1990) with 43 years service and attended St. Paul's United Church, Riverview and Mountain View United Church, Moncton. In his earlier years, he was active in the Moncton Y's Men's Club for over 10 years taking part in their amateur shows, dancing and acting. He was an assistant Cub Master at St. Paul's United Church, Past Worshipful Master of Tweedie Lodge #41, F& A.M. Moncton and Coverdale Lodge #52 F&A.M. Riverview. He enjoyed round and square dancing and was an active member of Charlie's Angels Round Dancing, Hub City Square Dancing and Peti Partners Square Dancing Clubs. Leslie will be sadly missed by his wife, Ruby Tower; sons, Shawn (Carol), Thayne (Diana), Troy (Carolee) all of Riverview; grandchildren, Scott, Kendra, Ryan, Tyler, Meghan, Dylan, all of Riverview; He will also be greatly missed by his extended family, who were very much apart of his life for the past 6 years. Darrell, Darlene and son, Nicholas Tower, Moncton, Cheryl, Graham and children, Sarah and Han McCrea, Moncton, Pamela Tower and Leonard Farrow, Halifax, Keith and Mandy Tower, Fredericton; sisters in law, Elva Whitney, Thunder Bay, ON; Mona Miller (Darrell), Moncton; brothers in law, Gordon Hare (Mae), Whitneyville; Herbert Dixson, Moncton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, the greatest loss of his life came in 2001 with the death of his beloved first wife, Betty whom he had been married to for 49 years. Also predeceased by sisters in law, Valerie Hume, Winnipeg; Glenna Golden, Thunder Bay; Viva Dixson, Moncton; brothers in law, Stanley Golden and Wilson Whitney, Thunder Bay. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd., Moncton (858-1995) Tuesday 2 to 4, 7 to 9pm. Funeral Service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday March 19, 2008, 3pm; Rev. Steve Berube, Rev. Mary Anningson officiating; Reception following the service; Interment, Elmwood Cemetery.
