Faye E. Higgins 1944-2008 Faye E. Higgins, 63, passed away on March 27, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer at her residence in Vassalboro, Maine with her loving family by her side. Faye was born in St. John, NB Canada on June 5, 1944, daughter of the late Harry H. and Violet (Hicks) Hopper. Faye graduated from Melrose High School in Massachusetts. She attended North Shore Community College and Boston School of Dental Nursing. Faye began her photography career with O'Connor School Pictures in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Faye rose to director of Photography and conducted country wide training seminars before operating the Maine franchise as Photography by Higgins. Her company photographed over 60,000 school children each year in Maine. Faye was a devoted member of the Penny Memorial Baptist Church in Augusta, and was a member of the church choir and the women's singing group Mainly Harmony. Faye was a board member and a volunteer at the Vassalboro Public Library. She loved music and was a accompanist piano player. Faye enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, reading, the ocean beaches, and her many trips to Canada with her grandson. Faye loved children, had a patient and kind heart and was someone you could talk to and confide in during times of need. Faye was a beloved and supportive wife and friend. Faye would wish to extend her love and thanks for the many happy years provided by her extended families and friends in New Brunswick, Canada, Maine and Massachusetts. She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne B. Cotta-Higgins; her daughter, Robyn C. Opacki and friend Peggy Tapley of Vassalboro; her stepdaughter, Lee A. Granados and her husband, Kevin of Washington DC; her grandson, Charles T. Opacki and great-granddaughter Alysha M. Opaki. "Nana" and her smile will be dearly missed by all. A special thanks goes to Dr. Sheridan R. Oldum, Dr. Woondong Jeong, Dr. Lawrence J. Scharf for treatment and a very special thanks to Dr. Catherine Kimball for overseeing her care for many years. Also thanks to the nurses and staff at the cancer treatment center and the Waterville Hospice Volunteers, and family and friends for their support. A memorial service will be held at Penny Memorial Baptist Church in Augusta on Saturday, April 5. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am; followed by a funeral service. Graveside services will be held at a later date in the spring.
