Gerald Welsh Long SACKVILLE- The death of Gerald Welsh Long, 80, of Sackville, occurred suddenly at his home on Monday, April 21, 2008. Born in Middle Sackville, he was the son of the late James & Rebecca (Estabrooks) Long. A skilled carpenter for most of his life, Gerald built many homes in the Sackville area. He was the first District Governor from the Sackville Lions Club for the district of 41N1. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and most sports, including hockey and car racing. Gerald will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Edith (nee Govang); three sons, David (Peggy), Bill (Diane), Bob (Claudette); two daughters, Gail (Sidney) Baker, and Jane (David) Slipp, all of Sackville; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Gerald was the last remaining member of his family. The remains have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, (364-1300), where visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9pm Thursday, April 24, 2008. The funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, April 25, 2008 from the funeral home, Pastor Morris Mills officiating. Burial will follow in The Sackville Cemetery. A Lion's Memorial Service will be held at 6:45pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
