69, Sydney Mines With broken hearts and deepest sadness, we, the family regret to announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt and friend, Agnes Phyllis McGean, on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving sisters, nieces and friends, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the loving daughter of the late George and Rosella (Matthews) McGean. Phyllis was a devout member of Immaculate Conception parish, where she served as cross bearer and eucharistic minister. She was a member of the parish CWL. She also belonged to the St. Elizabeth Alumni and the Retired Nurses Association. Phyllis graduated from St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1960. The following four years she spent working in Ontario. She worked at Hotel Dieu, St. Catharines, St. Joseph's Hospital, London, and Kingston General Hospital, Kingston. Following this, she returned to St. Elizabeth's where she became the inhalation therapist and IV therapist. She finished her nursing career at Harbour View Hospital, from where she retired in 1994. Phyllis loved to travel, and had many enjoyable trips, from St. Pierre, Miquelon, to Hawaii, Western Canada, Europe, The British Isles, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda and many times to Florida, from where she also took Caribbean cruises. Phyllis also enjoyed dancing, movies, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Phyllis is survived by her sisters, Glenda (Allan) Graves, Kentville, N.S., Georgina (Roy) Graves, New Minas, N.S., and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) (David) Smith, Millville, N.S. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, George (Shelley), Roseann (Chris), Roy (Marci), Bernie (Carla), Sheldon (Carol), Jeff (Tanya), Tracey (Shawn), Kim (Jon), and their children, Phyllis's great nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her extended family, Dr. William and Carolyn Snow, and their children, and her special friend, Eleanor Strickland. Besides her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her brother, Sheldon and loving companion, William Snow. Visitation for Phyllis McGean will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Tuesday, Nov. 4) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass celebrate her life will take place Wednesday, at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Convent Street, Sydney Mines, with Fr.
