Donald Bishop

87, Sydney Mines/Sydney Donald Melvin Bishop, Pero Street, Sydney Mines, formerly of Sydney, passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Harvey Bank, N.B., he was the son of the late Joseph and Mabel (Dixon) Bishop. A veteran of the Second World War, Donald served with the merchant marine and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney. He was retired from the federal government where he was employed as a radio operator. Surviving are his daughters, Mary Ann (Marc) LeFave, Kingston, N.S., Josephine Marie (Keith) Ramsay, Fall River, and Donna Bishop, Sydney Mines; sons, John LeFave, Cape Breton, James LeFave, Ontario, and Stephen LeFave, Toronto; brothers, Lloyd and Cecil, British Columbia, and Clyde, New Brunswick; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donald was predeceased by his wife, Edna (Morgan), daughter, Judith Green, sons, Joseph and Gerald LeFave, sister, Shirley Wheaton, brothers, Truman and Eldon. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
