Alcide Gionet

Alcide Gionet MEMRAMCOOK, NB - Alcide Gionet of Residence du Mascaret passed away on Sunday June 15, 2008 at the age of 82. Born in Caraquet, he was the son of the late Edmond M. Gionet and the late Leontine Duguas. He worked as a stationary Engineer at Dorchester Penitentiary until his retirement. He was the first Mayor of the Village of Saint Joseph from 1961-1977, president of Chamber of Commerce from 1964-1968, life member of Red Cross and Historic Society of Memramcook and member of Knights of Columbus of St-Joseph. He is survived by his wife, Antoinette (Fournier) Gionet; three daughters, Jacinthe Gionet of Quebec, Mariette Gionet of Caraquet and Jeanne (Bernard) Cormier of St-Joseph; two sons, Jean-Claude (Carmelle) Gionet of St-Joseph and Francois (Claudine) Gionet of Memramcook; four sisters, Irene (Fernand) Bossé of Ottawa, Amélia (Adelbert) Bertin of St-Léolin, Ernestine Gionet of Quebec and Jeanne Gionet of Montreal; six brothers, Edmond (Gisèle) of Caraquet, Père Donat Gionet cjm of Georgetown, ON, Léonard (Marguerite) of St-Joseph, Roméo (Marielle) of St-Foy, PQ, Jean (Irène) and Léon (Georgette) both of Caraquet; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Jean-René (1982) and by one brother, Réginald. Visitations will be held at Dupuis Funeral Home, 15 Rte La Vallée, Memramcook on Wednesday June 18 from 7 to 9 pm and Thursday June 19 from 1 to 3:30 pm. Funeral mass will be held at Saint Thomas de Memramcook Roman Catholic church, St-Joseph on Thursday June 19 at 4:00 pm. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery.
