Gerald Lee Lewis (Captain) Ret. 1934 - 2008 It is with great sadness, the family announces the passing of Gerald Lewis, 74 of Riverview, N.B. He passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on July 6, 2008, following a brief illness. Born in Lewis Mountain, he was the son of the late Joseph W. Lewis and the late (Ruth) Eva Lewis (Duncan). Gerald's distinguished career in the Canadian Air Force began in 1952 when he was posted in Clinton, Ontario for basic training. When he was Flight Lieutenant in the Transport Squadron, he visited many countries. At that time he was a radio operator. In later years as a Captain, he was on VIP detail as a Navigator and Chief Radio Officer. He was a crew member for many dignitaries such as; Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip, Lester Pearson and Princess Margaret. He also spent one year (1962) with the Strategic Air Command detail of the US Air Force. He is survived by three sisters, Caroline MacKenzie (Bob), Riverview, Donna Lewis, Lewis Mountain and Mary Lewis, (Salisbury); two brothers, Douglas Lewis (Verna), Lewis Mountain and Frank Lewis (Phyllis), Saskatchewan, along with several special nieces and nephews, Geordie MacKenzie (Halifax), Craig Lewis (Moncton), Cindy Doucet, (Memramcook), Suellen Hallihan (Halifax), Lori MacKinnon (Halifax), Andrea Schneider (Medicine Hat) and Jennifer Lewis (Medicine Hat). He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy. A private graveside service was held on Tuesday, July 8 with Pastor Vincent Burgess officiating. Flutist Adele Doucet performed "Danny Boy", and two solos were sung by Judy Ayles. Doug Lewis delivered the eulogy. Donations in Gerald's memory may be made to the Canadian Arthritis Society or a charity of choice. Honourary pallbearers were, Doug Lewis, Craig Lewis, Geordie MacKenzie and Daniel Doucet.
