Gunter Hoeksma 1923 - 2008 It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Mr. Gunter Hoeksma, husband of Luise Hoeksma, on July 16, 2008 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital with his loved ones by his side. Born in Konigsberg, Germany, April 13, 1923 to Paul and Maria (Flissakovski) Hoeksma. He married the love of his life, Luise on January 19, 1944. Seeking a better life, Gunter immigrated to Canada in October 1955, with his family soon following. Finding the better life that he wanted, he became a successful businessman and was the founder and former owner of Arvin Special Machinery. He loved the ocean and spent several years sailing the boat he built, Ventis Secundis, through the waters of the Caribbean and South America. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending many years skiing, camping, and fishing. Gunter is survived by is wife of 64 years, Luise (Strich); two daughters, Brigitte Falch (Eduard) of Kamloops B.C., Barbara Berry of Fredericton; two sons, Wolfgang (Sharon) of Miramichi, Henry (Marie) of Wolfville N.S.; two sisters, Margot Balz (Germany), Regina Tardiff (Florida); one brother, Bodo Hoeksma (Germany); sister-in-law, Kate Boenke (nee: Strich); special nephew, Peter Strich (Margaret); 10 grandchildren, Veronica Northeast, Barbara Pope, Richard Falch, Wendy Hoeksma, Christopher Berry, Samantha McLaughlin, Sayward Berry, Paul Hoeksma, Jeffrey Hoeksma, and Heather Berry; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents. Visitation will be Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 7 to 9 pm at Maher's Funeral Home, Miramichi. Funeral service will be held at Maher's Funeral Home on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 2pm. Internment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Miramichi. Reception following the funeral service will be held at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel from 4pm to 6pm . By request, family flowers only. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Gunter's memory to the Canadian Lung Association or the Miramichi SPCA.
