Merle Mitton Hopper

Merle Mitton Hopper 1923 - 2008 Merle M. Hopper of Moncton passed away peacefully at the Jordan Lifecare Center, River Glade, NB on Sunday, July 20th, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Husband of the late Dorothy (MacDonald) Hopper. Born in Nixon Settlement, he was the son of the late Evan and Janice (Mitton) Hopper. Merle enjoyed horse pulling with longtime friend Darryl Geldart, he also had a sugar camp with lifetime friend and cousin Rae Hopper in Meadow. He also did the Sleight rides / Hayrides at Centennial Park for over 16 years with his lifetime friend Yvon Collette. He was very active he cut his own firewood until he was 76 years old. He enjoyed laughing and teasing who ever were around him and avid outdoorsmen. Merle is survived by his two sons; James (Suzanne) of Moncton, Gordon (Wanda) of Colpitts Settlement, brother of; Doris (Merritt) Scott of Fredericton, Ruth (Sandy) Phillips of Hillsborough, grandchildren; Christine (Trevor), Cindy (Denis), Jeffery (Shelley), Gina, Shane (Kelly), great grandchildren; Bradley, Kirsten, Eliza & Isaac and by several nieces and nephews. Merle was predeceased by his parents and Evan's second wife Joyce, his sister, Violet Wilson. Visitation will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Monday, July 21, 2008 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Carol Mullin officiating with burial to Fair Haven Memorial Gardens to follow. Donations to the Jordan Lifecare Center, The Friends of the Moncton Hospital or to any other charity would be appreciated by the family.
