Francis James 'Frank' Axworthy

It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Francis James 'Frank' Axworthy, 78, announce his passing on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, Dec. 19, 1929, he was the son of the late John Herman and Margaret (Cusack) Axworthy. For many years, Frank was employed with Lipton's Auto Parts and retired due to injury from Miller Rentals, where he worked as a heavy duty diesel mechanic. Surviving are his wife, Ella (King); brother, John (Gladys) Axworthy; sons, Frank 'Bingy' (June), Gerald, Gary (Gail Fraser), Lenny, Glen (Michelle Walsh), Duane 'Cheta' (Shelly) and Troy (Susan Booth); daughters, Betty Gerrior, Dorothy (Fred Hawrylak), Beverly (John) Rafferty, Debbie (Cecil) Koehler and Margie Axworthy; 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by his daughter, Loretta, grandson, Gregory Gerrior, daughters-in-law, Betty Helle and Eleanor Malloney, son-in-law, Greg Gerrior, two sons in infancy, brothers, William Patrick 'Willie' and Patrick Scott and a brother in infancy. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sunday 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Monday, 11 a.m., with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating.
