Ellen Jean (MacKinnon) Cantwell

March 20, 1929-Nov. 10, 2008 Sydney Mines It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Jean Cantwell, 79, on Nov. 10, 2008, at the Miner's Memorial Manor, Lorne Street, Sydney Mines, where she resided since January 2008. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Nelda (Roy) MacKinnon. She was a member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines. In her younger years, she loved to bowl, play bingo and a good game of cards. She also loved to go dancing with her husband Bill at the legion on Saturday night. They also loved camping with all their friends at St. Ann's Campground. Jean is survived by her son, William and her daughters, Al-Jean (David) Taylor, Wilda (Donnie) Hyde and Judy (Dennis) Harrietha. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Angela and Les Taylor, Jennifer Quinn, Danielle, Katie and Alex Cantwell, Julie Ann and Cindy Harrietha and her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Avery Williams. Also left to mourn are her sisters, Johnena (Robert) Moore, Woburn, Mass., Margaret O'Neil, Truro, Jimima Campbell and Florence Johnson, both of Sydney Mines; and her brothers, Andrew (Agnes) and Francis (Louise), both of Sydney Mines; sisters-in-law, Queenie, Dorothy and Jake Cantwell and brothers-in-law, Art Morrison and Fred Cantwell. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband, Bill, daughter-in-law, Darlene Cantwell, sisters, Anne Rita Morrison, Madonna Coleski, Marie and her brother, John Archie, sister- in-law, Jennie Cantwell, brothers-in-law, Michael Coleski, LeRoy Johnson, Louis Campbell and Louis Cantwell. Visitation for Jean Cantwell will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Tuesday) from 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass to celebrate her life will take place Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Convent Street, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Hughie MacNeil officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the Miner's Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines.
