Born in Saint John on September 6th, 1939, he was the second youngest of the seven children of the late Alphonse and Alice (Arsenault) Doucet. Normand Doucet has made many longstanding contributions to the social work profession in New Brunswick. In 1963, Mr. Doucet received his Master of Social Work degree from the Maritime School of Social Work in Halifax. Over his long career, he revitalized and expanded the Social Work Department at the Moncton City Hospital and was instrumental in developing the Department of Social Work at the Georges Dumont Hospital. He was the founding Director of the School of Social Work at the Université de Moncton where he established the Bachelor of Social Work program, developed a field education program, and established a certificate in social work at the university. He was also named an honorary fellow of St Thomas University. Norm very much enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as carpentry, music and the great outdoors. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or extend a listening, compassionate ear to many members of his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his three sons Denis (Helen), Charles (Heidi) and Marc (Chantal) and his six grandchildren, Jonas, Zachary, Eleanor, Olivia, Dylan and Amanda. He will also be greatly missed by his brother Edgar (Bertha), his sisters Yvonne (Aurèle), Lina (Leonard), Emma (Fernand), Stella (Bill), younger sister Lorette, many nieces and nephews, special friends and his former wife and friend Greta. There will be no visitation or funeral at Norm's request. Cremation has taken place and a private family service and interment will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery. His family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the doctors and entire staff of department 4E at the Georges Dumont Hospital, as they delivered truly exceptional care to him in the final months of his life.
