Douglas "Duke" Field
Douglas "Duke" Field 1909 - 2008 The death of Douglas "Duke" Field, age 99, of Port Elgin, occurred on Grand Manan Island on Monday, October 27, 2008. Born in Port Elgin, he was the son of the late Harry and Leona (Allen) Field. Duke, as he was fondly known, was a carpenter by trade and in his quiet, gentle manner graciously served the people of the area. His family who were very special to him gathered at his farm at Indian Point for many good times Duke will be sadly missed by son, Robert (Sandra) Grand Manan Island, sister, Helen Walton, Port Elgin a half sister and brother, Isabel Peacock of Sackville, NS and Roderick Johnson of Port Elgin; grandchildren, Angela (Dwayne) Tate, Patricia (Tony) Doiron, Lindsay (Justin) Griffin; six great grandchildren, Mitchell, Matthew, Robbie, Madison, Thomas and Douglas. Besides his parents, he was pre- deceased by his wife Dorothy, daughter Wendy, grandson Douglas, sister Madeline and brothers, David and Ernest. Visiting hours will be held at the Jones Funeral Home in Port Elgin (538-2241) on Wednesday, October 29 from 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 11am with Pastor Carman Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Fernwood Cemetery.
