Bruce E. Blacklock Bruce E. Blacklock, in his 105th year, passed away peacefully at the Westford Nursing Home, Port Elgin, on Sunday, November 9, 2008. Born in Little Shemogue in the family home, he was a son of the late Thomas and Millicent (Clark) Blacklock. Bruce was one of the early graduates of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College having graduated in 1921. While there, he played on the College basketball team. He returned home to operate the family farm, and remained there for another 70 years until 1994. Dedicated to farming, he served on many agricultural organizations throughout his lifetime. In addition to farming, he was committed to the United Church, as a life long member, and his community, serving as a trustee of the Oulton Corner School, the Regional Memorial School Planning Committee, which turned into a trustee position for 17 years and serving on the Westmorland County Council for two terms as well as on the County Health Board. He was a founding member of the Port Elgin Rotary Club. This only touches on the extensive list of activities that Bruce participated in over his long life. He was most definitely a loved and respected community leader. Bruce will be dearly missed by his children Rae of Port Elgin, Thomas (Edith), Pointe Claire, QC, Marion Vijh (Rai), St. Catharines, ON, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (Burgin), a son Robert, granddaughter, Lisa Blacklock Law, 3 sisters, Marie Oulton, Agnes Murray and Stella Robinson Hayward. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin, NB (538-2241) where visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 14, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 2 pm with Rev. James Shaffner officiating. Burial will follow in the Fernwood Cemetery.
