64, Eskasoni It is with heavy hearts and loving memories that we, the family of Marion Paul, announce her death at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Monday, Nov. 17, 2008. Born Feb. 10, 1944, Marion was the daughter of the late Theresa Julian (nee) Battiste, Chapel Island. She was grateful for her brief stay at the home of Elizabeth Francis and the late Charles A. Francis, Eskasoni. She was raised by her foster mother, the late Mary Ann Sylliboy. Marion dedicated many years service to the Holy Family parish as a chairperson for the parish council. She actively organized many parish events to help with the renovations of the church. She also organized an annual parish pilgrimage to Ste. Anne de Beaupre. Marion served as a team leader with the Christopher Leadership Course in the 1980s and was part of the Cursillo movement. For 40 years Marion was a dedicated, loving educator. During those 40 years she was committed to the academic, social and emotional well being of every child who came into her sphere of influence. She spent 14 years as a teacher in the classroom, 11 years as a post-secondary co-ordinator and 15 years as the director of education for the Eskasoni School Board. She was honoured for her leadership in education by the Centre of Leadership Development during her time as director of education. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Eugene Paul; sons, Jeffrey (Wanda), Eugene 'E.J.' (Whitney); daughter, Claudia; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brothers, Albert (Judy) Julian, Donny; sisters, Marie (Fred), Beverly; and foster brother, Roger Morris. Also, survived by aunts, Harriet Doyle, Chapel Island, Mary Rose Gould, Membertou; godchildren, Debby Lutes-Cormier, Kji' Keptin Andrew Denny, Winston Patles, Joe Marshall, Alphonse Young, John Roy Paul, Mari K Joe, Suzanne Patles, Madeline Denny, John Joe Augustine, David Noel Milliea; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her mother, Theresa (Julian) Battiste, Chapel Island, foster father, Charles A. Francis and foster mother, Mary Ann Sylliboy, foster sister, Donna Marie Francis, aunts, Isabel Bernard, Mary Paul, Mary Ann Battiste, uncles, John and Stephen Battiste, brothers, Russell Battiste, Freeman and Stanley Julian and godchild, Wendy Denny. Visitation for the late Mrs. Paul will take place tonight (Thursday, Nov. 20), after 7 p.m. at the Gabriel Centre, Church Street, Eskasoni. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery. She will be remembered for her incredible approachable personality in the workplace and in the community, her tremendous sense of family, her love of community, her amazing spirit of determination and her unwavering dedication and support of education, her sense of fairness as well as her wonderful sense of humour.
