
Reinis Karlis Freimanis
Reinis Karlis Freimanis 1924 - 2009 On January 13, 2009, Reinis Karlis Freimanis passed away at The Moncton City Hospital after battling cancer for several months. Born in Slampe, Latvia, he was the son of the late Gustovs and Alma (Francbergs) Freimanis and has resided in Moncton since 1971. Reinis and Jean were able to make several visits to his beloved Latvia reuniting with relatives and friends since 1992. Reinis was a well renowned craftsman and wood sculptor. He passionately loved working with wood, creating amazing pieces of furniture and sculptures that grace homes throughout Canada, the United States and Europe. He shared his passion with others, teaching the art of wood carving and antique furniture restoration. When not in his shop, he could be found working in his garden among beautiful flowers and organic vegetables. Reinis will be sadly missed by his wife, Jean (Cochrane); son, Maris (Myra), Port Hawkesbury, NS; daughter, Inese Barnett (Edward), Ottawa; grandson, Glenn (Shawna); great grandchildren, Connor, Keegan and Carly, Judique, NS; nephews, Arnis and Vilnis; sister-in-law, Antonija; cousin, Ina, Latvia; brother-in-law, Bill Smith, Calgary; sister-in-law, Gloria Smith, Moncton. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), Friday, 2 to 4, 7 to 9pm. Funeral service, Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday, January 17, 2009, 2:00 pm, Rev. Jerry Reddy and Rev. Gordon Horsman officiating. Reception following the service. Interment, Mount Eagle Cemetery in the spring. Reinis was an adherent of the Hillside Baptist Church.
