Alva Louise Smith The death of Alva Louise (Lewis) Smith occurred peacefully on Saturday, February 21st, 2009 at her home in Burton, NB. Born October 3rd, 1930 in Perth-Andover, NB, she was the daughter of the late Greta Lewis. She grew up in Monteagle Settlement, near Salisbury, NB. Alva started her teaching career in a one-room school house in Maugerville in 1949 and taught in Oromocto, NB until her retirement in 1992. Alva was a member of the IODE and the NB Society of Retired Teachers. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Claire Smith; two sons, Glendon Smith and his wife, Kim Munn of Charters Settlement, NB and Stewart Smith and his wife, Rachel Bernard of Cross Creek, NB; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Fred Lewis; and her daughter-in-law, Bobbie Smith. Visitation will take place at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home, (108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto) on Tuesday, February 24th, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, February 25th, 2009 at 2pm with Reverand Keith Howlett officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Paul's Cemetery, Burton, NB.
