Donald Sheldon MacInnis

77, Birch Grove/ New Waterford Donald MacInnis, 77, of Birch Grove passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Samuel and Eliza (Stonier) MacInnis. Donnie had been an employee of McKinlays Pop Factory, Glace Bay and Devco. Not religious by nature, Donnie was a Christian (Presbyterian) by heart. A kind and gentle man, Donnie spent his life loving and caring for his family, especially his sister Catherine. He enjoyed many summers at his bungalow in Loch Lomond and was deeply grateful when his niece Cathy and her husband Dan O'Neill built a cottage in St. Stephen, N.B. for himself and his sister. While at his new cottage, Donnie tended to his chickens and his horse, 'Mooney'. He enjoyed doing chores such as piling wood, washing dishes or whatever was needed, Donnie was always glad to help in any way. He will also be remembered for his great sense of humour and his ability to make people laugh. Children and animals were drawn to his beautiful nature. Donnie spent the last 16 years of his life living with his sister, Catherine; and his niece, Brenda (Dave) MacRury; their son, Jamie (Daeton Bryson) MacRury, Birch Grove. He is survived by two sisters, Catherine MacDonald, Birch Grove, Ethel (Roy) Mugford, California; one brother, Alton, Truro; nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews, from one end of the globe to another. Donnie was predeceased by brothers, Fred, Jackie, Sam and his brother-in-law, Herb MacDonald. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral in Glace Bay. There will be no visitation and a private burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. A special thank you to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home for their compassion and guidance. To the staff of Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford for the care and love given to Donnie and for making him feel like he was always in his own home.
